Profile from San Francisco FRONTIERS Magazine, 10-7-99

Toby Jantzen is a self-taught painter, makeup artist, and photographer. Toby, born in 1957 in Syracuse, NY, learned his craft in Vancouver, BC.

Six years ago he got on his bicycle, leaving the repressive atomosphere in Cananda (where he was arrested for painting two nude men -- larger than life Science and Technology holding up Christopher Columbus' ship, the Santa Maria, to keep it from falling off the edge of the world). He headed south to freedom in San Francisco. After a month on the road, "the Golden Gate Bridge never looked so good," he recalls.

In his spare time he likes to body paint gogo dancers at night clubs and parties. An exhibit of his work will be on display for the SF Art Walk at City Art 828 Valencia.
